"I like to allow the stone guide me in the design process and believe that each carving is a partnership between the carver and the stone."

I am of Rongomaiwahine/Ngati Kahungunu descent. I was born in Hastings and now reside amongst jade country in the West Coast town of Greymouth with my partner and 2 young kids.

I was first introduced to Pounamu in 1996 when a friend took me fossicking along one of the beaches of Te Tai Poutini (West Coast). From my first find of pounamu I felt a deep connection to this taonga and in 1997 successfully completed a Pounamu/Jade Carving course at Tai Poutini Polytechnic. I have continued to carve pounamu and other hard stones since then and in 2005 returned to the polytechnic and gained my Diploma in Jade and Hard Stone Carving.  During that year I explored Taonga Puora or traditional Maori musical instruments in the medium of stone and was given an award for originality in design. I enjoy exploring the art of my tupuna and have a strong fascination with functional works of art.I have exhibited in a number of shows throughout New Zealand including the 12th Pounamu/Jade and Hard Stone Exhibition and competed in the inaugural World Jade Symposium this year.
