Stone Grades
A GRADE
- Pounamu (nephrite and bowenite) without visible mineral inclusions such as iron.
- No visual fractures compromising structural integrity.
- Deep, vivid or bright colour character.
B GRADE
- Pounamu (nephrite and bowenite) without visual mineral inclusions such as iron.
- Some visual fratures complimenting stone by creating character.
- No visual fractures compromising structural integrity.
- Deep, vivid or bright colour character.
C GRADE
- Pounamu with minor scattered visible mineral inclusions such as iron.
- Some visual fratures complimenting stone by creating character. No visual fractures compromising structural integrity.
- Deep, vivid or bright colour character.
- Includes Kokopu variety that are hard, tight stone, without visible fractures.
D GRADE
- Pounamu with medium visible mineral inclusions such as iron.
- Some visual fratures complimenting stone by creating character. No visual fractures compromising structural integrity.
- Less Deep, vivid or bright colour character.
- Includes Kokopu variety that are less hard and no visible fractures.
E GRADE
- Low iron content Totoweka, no visible fractures.
- Hard, low fractured Kokopu.
F GRADE
- High iron content Totoweka some visible fractures.
- High fractured Pounamu of any type compromising carving structure.
